GSP Uses Sport to Promote Peace in Pakistan
Using sport to develop communities is a very important aspect of Global Sports Partners’ ethos. Zahid Johnson, a Pakistani national, has represented GSP in Pakistan since 2003. In 2009, Johnson received training with Generations for Peace*, an initiative founded by Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan.
As a representative of GSP, Zahid did his first Generations for Peace project in 2010. Since then, much of his focus has been community development, using sport to promote peace and teach conflict resolution. His efforts are not only focused on the children of Pakistan, but also on training leaders to implement sustainable programs in their own communities.
* “Generations for Peace is an international non-governmental charitable organization dedicated to the innovative and sustainable use of sport for peace building and development. Founded by HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan, Generations For Peace is based in Amman but supports sport for peace and development activities in 46 countries and territories worldwide. Generations For Peace is one of only two peace-through-sport organizations officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee.” http://generationsforpeace.com/UserPages/Default.aspx
